Amazing (and Poopy) Day #3

October 3, 2012 — 8 Comments

Today was amazing in many ways, but some that I had not planned. Here is the back story: Elijah is 99% potty trained.  He wears Pulls Ups at night and hasn’t had an accident during the day for a few weeks now.  Apparently, I’ve gotten cocky and complacent.

Today I planned an amazing mommy/son day.  The plan was to go to the library for storytime.  Then we would walk around Abingdon taking beautiful fall pictures of the colored leaves, cobblestone sidewalks, and historical civil war era building.  This would be followed by a trip to the park where Elijah and I would ride on the swings together and climb the huge old trees.  Finally, we planned to have lunch at my new favorite coffeehouse, Zazzy’z.  (I hate that it ends in a “Z”, but what are you going to do.)  So that was going to be our amazing day.

We did all of those things today, but not as I had envisioned.  First, Elijah had a little pee accident at the library.  No problem. Being the awesome mom I am, I had an extra set of underwear and clothes.  No problem.

A few hours later, when we arrived at the playground two miles from the house (on foot), he said his belly hurt then proceeded to squat down and poop in his underwear… the back up pair… as in I-did-not-have-any-more.   Uggg!

We left the park to walk to Zazzy’z to use their bathroom.  I left Bob (our jog stroller) outside, but brought our gear with us lest it be stolen.  Once in the bathroom, I stripped him down and rinsed out his underwear in the toilet.  (One of my least favorite mommy duties.)  I didn’t have a plastic bag for dirties (remember, I’ve gotten too cocky), so after I got them clean enough to not stink up the little bathroom, they went into the garbage.  I unrolled his just-a-little-bit-peed-in underwear from before and on they went.  Did I mention that I no longer carry wipes since I’ve gotten cocky?  That was another issue that I will spare you the details of reading.  After about 10 minutes, we emerged wounded, yet triumphant.

When we exited the bathroom, I had the camera in my hand.  The lady waiting for the bathroom, already clearly annoyed by how long we had taken, looked at me then down at the camera as if I were a pervert.  I didn’t even address it and kept on walking.  We ordered, ate, and we read some of our library books at a cozy seat by the window.  Things were looking up.

After Zazzy’z, we returned to the playground for round two.  We enjoyed ourselves.  We played on the swings, in trees, and took more pictures.  We had a lot of fun until the playground curse struck again.  More poop!  Well, that was the end of our amazing day.  We started the two-mile walk back to the house, poopy pants and all.  Apparently, it didn’t bother Elijah much.  He took a nap.  Regardless of the circumstances, it was an amazing (and moving) day, chronicled through the pictures we took and the memories we made.

Holly, do you understand the sign on the bank? “We don’t wear ties, we encourage them.” I haven’t been able to figure out that sign since we moved here.

Oh man! Sounds like an (epic) adventure! Know I know what to expect when Jude gets older! :)

I had a busy day of teaching (which is great!), but sometimes these can get long. However, I was able to keep my attitude in the right place and had an incredible day!

I’m glad you hung in there for a great day and gave your students your all.

I love the post Jody…has me laughing out loud! Gotta love those unexpected moments of UGH that in the big scheme of life, are rather funny really. I’m really learning to just view every day as an adventure.
*My guess on the sign is that what the bankers is not as important as the relationships they create with clients??

Jaime, thanks for solving the sign mystery. That makes sense. Still stupid though ;)

I agree about each day being its own adventure. Thanks for the info you provided on overseas teaching. I’ll certainly be asking more questions if we ever decide to pursue something.

You know what they say Jody…….LIFE happens! Oh well, one day you will look back on today and laugh, I promise! Maybe not today, or tomorrow…. or next week….but one day you will……………nothing like our kids to knock us off of our “cocky” horses! :)

Kids are great! They are a great source of entertainment. I don’t take these things too seriously. I just shake my head and try to live in the moment. They grow up so fast…. as you well know ;)
