Day 1 of 31 Amazing Days Challenge

October 1, 2012 — 16 Comments

Today is the first day of our 31 Amazing Days Challenge.  I have my list for the month pretty much outlined, but I’m leaving room for random moments of inspiration.  Wouldn’t you know, I got that moment on day #1.

My relatively new online friend, Alana Mokma, posted something to Facebook the other day that caught my attention.  She wrote:

“Random Fact: If you dare me to do something, I will almost always accept the challenge.

Oh, game on, sister.  I challenged her to organize a group and participate in an upcoming Spartan Race.  For those who don’t know, Spartan races are adventure races with obstacles spread out over several miles.  Warrior Dash, Spartan Race, Tough Mudder… they are all similar.  I sent her a link to a video from their home page.

A couple hours after “accepting” my challenge, she returns with her “Spartan Race” video.  She was hoping that it would substitute for the real deal.

After some trash talking and joking back and forth, she challenged our mutual friend Claudia and me to create our own spoof Spartan Race video.  Since Claudia thinks of me as her quirky friend, I have to live up to her image of me.

So, within the next week or so (when Steve, my camera man, has time to help me), I’ll be creating my Spartan video and putting myself out there for her (and all of the YouTube audience’s) amusement.  Oh, dear!

My sister’s wedding is coming up next weekend.  Maybe the wedding party can all join in.  Ohhhh, she would kill me :)

If you’re participating with us, how did your Day 1 go?  Tell us about your amazing day.

Jody

YEAH!!!!!! Ohmygosh, if you could see my smiling face right now. I’m so pumped and CANNOT WAIT to see what you and Claudia have in store! I love you both and I haven’t even met you in person yet. Rock on, sista.

You’re crazy! If Claudia and I lived closer together, we could do the “Spartan Race” together. That would be awesome.

I’m looking forward to meeting up. I’m seriously considering visiting over sometime in Dec. or January if that’s is okay with you. Maybe the Goods would like to join us for a road trip.

Ooooh. I LOVE that idea! (the road trip) Also think it would be fantastic if you and Claudia were close enough to do a “Spartan Race” together! But it will be equally enjoyable to see each of our individual creativity. :)

I love how random things like this come up. How fun. I can see you bench pressing Michael or something :)

Lol! You all are SO funny! Great video, Alana! Well, we didn’t do anything spectacularly amazing today, but we did get the green light for a home birth from the midwife today and got a dream board. Woo hoo!

    • jodyberkey

Ryan, do you want in on the “modified” Spartan Challenge? It’ll be great!

The green light for a home birth is pretty amazing. I’m glad that worked out for you. When is the anticipated big day?

Where did you get a Dream Board? I thought you created those. Tell me more.

      • http://daddydifference.com/ Ryan Ash

Lol! I think that I may pass on that since your husband told me that I really shouldn’t be running right now.

Yes, it was wonderful news! She’s due November 3rd, but Skyler was 3 weeks early, so who knows.

We bought a roll of paper and a peg board like Michael and Claudia use. I guess you could really say that our dream board is still a dream. :p But we do have the necessary items to make one now.

        • jodyberkey

Oh, I see. You got the materials for a dream board. I thought you got one premade. I was going to say… that’s really missing the point ;)

So really any day now for the little one. We’ll add you to our prayer list. Lots more changes ahead for you guys. Very exciting!!!

I guess the doctor’s order will get you out of the Spartan Race. Lucky!

          • http://daddydifference.com/ Ryan Ash

Lol! Do I need to get a “doctor’s note”?

          • jodyberkey

Nah, we’ll let you slide :)

Does not killing your coworker count as an amazing day? I guess not. That isn’t very nice. That is just how my week has gone. I am working on being more positive and coming up with my list. YOU are my inspiration, Jody. Let’s do this.

Not killing your coworker is a great choice, so I would count that as an amazing day :) I’m sorry that library land is not going well this week. I seem to recall some issues toward the end of the school year. Is this an ongoing problem? I guess it’s hard to avoid problems when you work so closely together everyday. I hope the rest of the week goes better. Hugs!

Jody, today it played with Jude and we had a blast!

    • jodyberkey

Fun! I’m guessing he’s enjoying walking all over the place.

He’s taken a few steps on his own, but not completely walking yet.
